Never use the Same Resume
As an iT Recruiter that has
represented some of the largest companies in America, I can assure you
that your resume format and content is important ! My advise to you is
to modify your personal experiences and technology expertise to focus
on what the company wants in their ideal candidate. This doesn't mean
lying about skills you do not have; however, it does mean to focus
your skills to match the job requirements.
For example, if you are
applying for a Visual Basic position, your skills in Lotus Notes won't
get you in the door. Make sure your resume screams out loud you are a
Visual Basic expert. Modify any job related experiences you may have
to clearly emphasis your Visual Basic experience. Make sure Visual
Basic is written at least 10 times in your resume. Also, attempt
to match any other qualifications you may have that seems idea for the
posted position. For example, if they are looking for a VB programmer
to get involved in coding new financial applications, make sure you
clearly support and identify any previous financial package experience
you may have in your background. Get the picture ......
If you are using one
resume to
apply to numerous positions, you are not reducing the odds. I'll let
you in on another little secret. Keep in mind that companies get
hundreds of resumes. Did you know that your resume will most
likely only be skimmed over in 20 seconds or less ? That means your
resume needs to shout out to them that you are a possible hire within
20 Seconds ! That's all the time you have ! If it doesn't
convince them in that time it will be put into a rejection pile. If
you are lucky, you may receive a nice rejection letter from the
corresponding company. Modify your resume to match the position in
which you are applying !
