   Attitude is Everything

If  I had to give you a common characteristic of all the candidates I have hired over the years, it would have to be attitude ! I can not express that enough. Even if you may be the better technically qualified candidate,  the candidate with  average technical skills but with a  great attitude will most likely get the position.

When you are interviewing, light some fire under your bottom !  Employers want to hire candidates that are excited about the opportunity. In addition, this also includes candidates that fit into the company culture. If you come across as a whiner or a misfit you will set a red flag with them. They want cooperative non-whining team players.

I'll let you in on another secret. Attitude starts at the first point of contact the company made with you all the way through the final job offer. That means your attitude will be judged while talking to HR over the phone, conversations with the secretary while waiting for your interview, and  other conversations that take place with various personnel of that company. Be careful !

If you are utilizing an agency for your  IT job search , your attitude may also be accessed by various personnel of the agency. Did you know that an agency may not present your resume to their client if you have an attitude problem ? Seasoned agency recruiters know from past experience, that problem candidates rarely make them money. They won't waste their time or risk their bread winning  relationship with their client on   you !  Bad attitude candidates never win......
